So here is the deal for what looks to be a fun filled but freezing weekend. We have the Kombi at Sunapee on Saturday and now have the option to attend the Whaleback event on Sunday. Details for each event below.
Saturday – Sunapee Mt Kombi – Plan on arriving by 8am. Registration 7:30-8:30am gray building next to triple lift which is in front of Spruce Lodge. Meet coaches Sean, BD and Tobi at 8:30am in front of the Spruce Lodge ready to ski. We will have a number of guest coaches who will take the kids up to slip the course. First run starts at 9:30am. Second run scheduled for 12:30pm with awards 1/2 hour after completion of the race. The forecast is calling for highs in the single digits with a stiff north wind. While many kids are dying to ski in their race suits for the first time the coaches are not going to let the kids strip down due to the very cold temps so just have them put their race bib over their coat and be sure sure all skin is covered. Good day for hand and foot warmers. Typically Sunapee offers are racer family ticket that you can purchase at guest services but I do not have any details on this but they should know at registration.
Sunday – Whaleback or thaw out – I elected to send in our entire team roster to whaleback so this is now an option for anyone who wants to attend. However because of the last minute change to what was planned to be a day off we have a very limited number of coaches who are able to attend. In fact at this point I am not sure exactly who is able to go but we are working hard to figure that out and I am confident we will have enough coaches to make it a great experience for everyone who goes. Here are the details from Whaleback.
8:00 – 9:00 registration
9:00 – 9:45 course inspection
10:00 – Paneled slalom – 1 run
12:30 (or ½ hour after slalom) – freestyle competition – combination of jumps and boxes, -which will be at the bottom of face this year (kids hike up a small area – will go much quicker)
Awards will be approximately 30 minutes after last run – either out on the lower deck like last year or in the upstairs of the lodge
As done in previous years, we will provide participation awards for everyone, as well as the top 3 finishers for male and female U6, U8, U10, and U12 categories will receive an award.
We will also have one snowboarder category with no age or gender bracket.
Registration will be $20 – checks/cash only – checks can be made out to Whaleback Mountain Club
Parent/sibling ticket is $20 – (cash/charge)
If you made it this far I am impressed. See you this weekend and let me know if you have any questions.
